We are Yvonne & Michael Bauche and would like to tell you about ourselves!

We are a Canadian and English couple, who have always had pets, and who love to travel and meet new people. This is why we started home and pet sitting as a way to see more of the world and still get our pet fix.

We started ‘sitting’ in May 2012 with a series of sits in Europe and have been hooked on travelling and house sitting ever since. In 2013 we visited Central America, with sits in mountainous Boquete, Panama, city life in San Jose, Costa Rica and one deep in the jungle in Belize.

In 2014 we started house sitting in the Caribbean and have completed multiple return ‘sits’ in St Lucia, St Vincent & The Grenadines, Grenada, and Barbados. More recently we have completed house sitting assignments in Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, Cyprus, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey & Canada.

Although we call ourselves retired, we still work on projects of our own. We co-wrote a house and pet sitting guide with International Living and have published three Kindle books.  Yvonne is also a freelance travel writer and Michael a photographer, which combined with our blogs, keeps us busy. Needless to say we spend a lot of time at ‘home’ rather than rushing around being tourists. We jest that we are ‘homebodies who like to travel’ as our idea of a perfect night is being curled up with a furred friend and a good book or a movie.

We are both healthy, fully vaccinated, non-smoking omnivores who enjoy a glass of wine with dinner.

Yvonne was born in a small rural town in England–it was a large busy household with various cats, dogs, budgies, hamsters, rabbits, goldfish and even two ferrets! Having pets was a way of life and still is. Even as an adult, home life always included pets and a garden….. Yvonne is the one with the green thumb, liking nothing better than to potter for a few hours, planting, pulling weeds and of course harvesting the bounty.

Yvonne worked in the financial services industry in Canada where she had to undergo Police and credit checks to maintain her license. Prior to moving to Canada she managed a seed testing laboratory for many years in England. Yvonne has also worked as a Scuba Instructor and crew hand in the Caribbean for several years. This gave her the opportunity to share her love for diving and to learn some culinary skills from the cordon bleu chef.

Michael is definitely a country boy, growing  up near Kamloops in British Columbia, Canada. His folks had acreage where he reared his own chickens, ducks and pigs. Michael has lots of experience dealing with wells and sceptic systems–both an integral part of country living– along with chopping cords of wood for the fire of course.

Michael is a retired Professional Engineer, project manager and API Certified Inspector and ran his own consulting business (Bauche Engineering Ltd.) for almost twenty years. He was however ready for a change of pace and more time to travel.

Our own home was in beautiful British Columbia and we still have rental property there. We have done extensive renovations on our properties over the years, doing the majority of work ourselves. Michael is a hand’s on guy and very handy when it comes to plumbing and electrical work. Yvonne turns a deft hand to the painting, tiling and of course the garden.
